TATTOOS BY MURPH
My name is Tyler Murphy. I am the newest crew member at Treasure Ink Studio here in Louisville! I was born and raised in Bardstown which is also the place that kickstarted my tattoo career. I tattooed there for about 6 years and was fortunate to be taught a lot of the older fundamentals and skills of tattooing that a lot of people aren’t taught today like building/tuning your own machines, learning how to make and solder your own needles, and a lot of things that have fallen to new technology and practices, even though they are still important pastimes and pillars in tattooing. Fortunately, I had been around the profession for a lot of my younger life and was an apprentice myself for about a year. I put my blood, sweat, tears and countless hours into absorbing anything tattoo related I could. I had never wanted anything so badly, and I completely immersed every fiber of my being into it. That dedication led to me excelling quickly through my apprenticeship and I have now been tattooing professionally for about 17 years. Early on in my career I focused on color and new school style but my curiosity evolved into sponging up as much information about any and every style I could. The past 5 or so years I have been booked for black and grey and black and grey realism primarily. I guess you could say I now specialize in the black and grey realism area, however, I still accept color projects in any style and enjoy doing them very much! New School, American, Japanese Traditional, Neo Trad, Abstract, Illustrative, Anime, anything really! They all excite me, and I’ve never shied away from a new or challenging style. Throughout the years I have tried my best to continue to expand my knowledge in this growing art. Tattooing isn’t just a career but a lifestyle. Tattooing is a 24/7 job, meaning after I clock out, I'm spending hours at home researching, drawing and preparing for the next few days appointments. I am lucky enough to come home to my incredible special needs daughter and my supportive wife, who I couldn’t do this without. Tattooing never stops but it’s my clients that make it worth it. Without them I wouldn’t still be doing this 17 plus years later.
